Craig A. Dise, MD

Craig A. Dise, MD, PhD, is chairman of the Department of Pathology, co-director of laboratories and attending pathologist at Morristown Memorial Hospital and Overlook Hospital in New Jersey. In addition, he is chairman of the Atlantic Health Institutional Biosafety Committee, chairman of the Atlantic Health Institutional Review Board and medical director of the School of Medical Technology at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He is a former associate clinical professor of pathology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.      
 
Dr. Dise earned his BS in chemistry summa cum laude with highest honors at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He completed his MD at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and his PhD in biochemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. His postgraduate education includes the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine National Institute of General Medical Sciences Medical Scientist Training Program and a research fellowship with the Muscular Dystrophy Association of America under the auspices of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Yale University School of Medicine. His residencies in pathology were completed at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Yale University School of Medicine.
 
Dr. Dise’s research interests are primarily devoted to the biochemical and microbiologic pathways involved in pathologic conditions. He is the author or coauthor of articles concerning varied topics in pathology, which are published in Cancer, Journal of Lipid Research and Human Pathology, among other publications. Dr. Dise, a past president of the New Jersey Society of Pathologists, is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and American Society of Clinical Pathologists. He is a member of the United States-Canadian Academy of Pathology, American Association of Clinical Chemists, American Medical Association, New Jersey Medical Society, Clinical Laboratory Management Association and Association for Pathology Informatics.
 
Dr. Dise notes, “With laboratory testing affecting nearly every clinical decision, pathologists examine biopsies and specimens to determine the nature of a disease process and how it might respond to treatment. For this reason, pathologists interact with and assist physicians in every specialty to guide treatment decisions for many patients. Having an integral role in the care of many patients, while making new discoveries that unravel the complexities of the human body and its diseases, makes pathology an especially rewarding field.”
