Susan T. Kaye, MD



Susan T. Kaye, MD, FAAFP, is medical director and designated institutional official in the Division of Academic Affairs for Atlantic Health and chair for the Department of Family Medicine at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey. She is also an attending physician at Overlook Hospital. Dr. Kaye is an associate dean for Atlantic Health at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, as well as an associate professor of medicine at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Kaye earned her ScB in biology with honors at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. After completing her MD at New York University School of Medicine in New York City, she completed her residency in family medicine at Overlook Hospital, where she was designated chief resident. Her fellowship in faculty development was completed at the Family Practice Faculty Development Center of Texas in Waco.

Dedicated to promoting volunteerism among medical professionals, Dr. Kaye directs the Benjamin H. Josephson, MD, Fund, which provides financial support for medical volunteers who care for patients in underserved communities, both in the United States and around the world. She is a board member of Shoulder to Shoulder, Inc., a nongovernmental international health organization that provides medical, dental and nutritional services to patients in developing countries.

Dr. Kaye has been a frequent speaker in her areas of academic interest, including primary care and global health, women’s health, patient-focused education and adolescent health. She is chair of Atlantic Health’s Graduate Medical Education Committee. As a member of the Dean’s Committee, Graduate Medical Education Committee and Medical Student Education Consortium Forum of Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Dr. Kaye has been integral in developing the academic partnership between Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Atlantic Health. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a member of the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians, among others. She is listed in New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors in New York,” New Jersey Monthly’s “Top Doctors for Women’s Health,” New Jersey Savvy Living’s “101 Top New Jersey Doctors for Women’s Health,” and Castle Connolly’s “Top Doctors in the New York Metro Area.”

Dr. Kaye says, “As the US health care system moves towards coordinating and integrating health care services across specialties and settings, I believe that primary care will once again become the driver for quality health care in our communities. As a medical educator for nearly 25 years, I hope to continue to influence how our health care providers of the future are trained and mentored, always keeping quality and personal care at the core of all we do.”
