Walter D. Rosenfeld, MD

Walter D. Rosenfeld is the chairman of pediatrics and the director of the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health for Atlantic Health's Goryeb Children's Hospital at Morristown Memorial Hospital and Goryeb Children's Center at Overlook Hospital. His special areas of interest include adolescent sexuality; eating disorders and obesity; teens and the Internet; ethical issues in research with adolescents; and the connections between physiologic disorders and psychosocial issues.

After receiving a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin and an MD from Temple University School of Medicine, Dr. Rosenfeld completed a residency in pediatrics at Babies Hospital of Columbia University and a fellowship in adolescent medicine at Boston Children's Hospital of Harvard University.

Among Dr. Rosenfeld's myriad accomplishments are original research on human papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted disease, and participation in trials to develop an HPV vaccine, now routinely provided to adolescent girls. He is the medical director of TeenHealthFX.com, a unique, award-winning adolescent health website created at Goryeb Children's Hospital, and of Project TeenFitFX, a web-based behavior modification program currently in pilot testing. TeenFitFX, designed to help prevent obesity and promote physical activity, was developed in partnership with experts from Johns Hopkins University and North Carolina State University, through funding from the New Jersey Health Initiatives Program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

"The best health care available is always collaborative - it incorporates the knowledge and skills of providers from every subspecialty working together and working with families. At Goryeb Children's Hospital, our medical experts use the latest medical treatments and are often involved in the development of new approaches to diagnosis and treatment. Comprehensive clinical care is offered for medical conditions as disparate as cystic fibrosis, childhood leukemia, and eating disorders," says Rosenfeld. "This coordinated clinical care also extends into the communities we serve, helping primary care practitioners to advance their skills and knowledge, enabling them to recognize problems earlier, help prevent disease, and intervene without delay. That kind of synergy - the momentum that really spurs not only successful treatment but real medical advances -- is only possible when you have the depth and breadth of services that we do at Atlantic Health."
