Establishing the Standards for Robotic Surgery

Morristown Memorial’s robotic surgery team is among the very best in the northeast, performing procedures offered at few other hospitals, and training other surgeons in state-of-the-art robotic surgical techniques:

• Our surgeons performed the first laparoscopic radical prostatectomy in the state of New Jersey, and now manage a large robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy program, performing over 225 surgeries to date.  They serve as proctors for other surgeons learning to perform robotic prostate surgery.
  
• Morristown Memorial surgeons were the first on the east coast to perform robotic surgery for pelvic prolapse.  Physicians from the tri-state region now train at Morristown Memorial to perform these techniques.
  
• Morristown Memorial is one of only a small group of hospitals in the New York metropolitan area to use robotic surgery to treat kidney tumors and kidney obstruction. 
  
• Our surgeons perform robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical cystectomy for bladder cancer , and augmentation cystoplasty for severe neurogenic bladder -- procedures offered at only few institutions worldwide.
  
• Our nurses are trained specifically in robotic surgical care and provide guidance to staff at other hospitals developing such programs. 
  
• Most robotic surgery patients are cared for in a surgical unit dedicated specifically to Minimally Invasive Surgery.
