Cardiac Electrophysiology Procedures

State-of-the-art technology enables our physicians to measure and treat heart rhythm irregularities:

Electrophysiology EP
  • Electrophysiology (EP) Study - Used to identify patients at risk for arrhythmias (irregular heart beats). Electrode catheters are inserted through veins and arteries into the heart chambers to pinpoint and map out the area where arrhythmias originate.

  • Arrhythmia Mapping - During an electrophysiology study, electrode catheters read electrical activity in the heart. An electrical map of the arrhythmia shows the origination, frequency and speed of the signals.

  • Implantable Cardiac Defibrillators (ICD) - These small devices detect life-threatening rapid and irregular heartbeats and send a low-energy shock to the heart to restore a normal rhythm.

  • Radiofrequency Ablation Therapy - Heat energy is applied to small regions of the heart to treat various abnormally rapid heart rhythms.

  • Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator (ICD) Evaluations - ICDs are routinely evaluated to ensure they remain effective.
