Cardiac Rhythm Management Program

Weighing just ounces, the heart is a hollow muscle. It endlessly contracts and relaxes to pump fuel to the body. Even between beats the heart keeps working, with its special electrical system continually generating the impulses needed to produce the next beat. The pace and pattern of the heart's electrical system are the expertise of the Cardiac Rhythm Management Program at Morristown Memorial Hospital.

The Cardiac Rhythm Management Program cares for patients who have had or may be at risk for heart rhythm problems. The team treats patients resuscitated from cardiac arrest; those with irregular, premature, or rapid heartbeats; and those experiencing unexplained fainting episodes. The doctors, nurses and technologists also concentrate on the care of patients who may be at risk of dying suddenly from cardiac arrest, individuals with or in need of a pacemaker or automatic defibrillator, and others with potential genetic links to heart rhythm problems.

The cardiac rhythm management team performs comprehensive electrophysiology studies, radiofrequency ablations for supraventricular and ventricular tachycardias, pacemaker and defibrillator implantations, and tilt table testing. The team also participates in important clinical trials to advance the standard of patient care.

Exceptional, comprehensive patient care is the goal of every cardiac rhythm management team. Psychological care is just as important as physical care and our doctors carefully consider what's best for you and the life you lead when they develop a treatment plan.
