Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Overlook Hospital is a leader in providing cardiac services in a community hospital setting. In 1965, Overlook Hospital was the first hospital in New Jersey to feature a cardiac care unit and it has been setting the standard for cardiac care ever since. Overlook was also the first hospital in New Jersey to have a mobile intensive care unit, first to perform emergency angioplasty in a community hospital setting, and we continue to be leaders in quality emergency and cardiac care. In 2007, Overlook Hospital received full accreditation as a Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers, an international professional organization that establishes the standards for cardiac care around the world. In addition, Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Overlook Hospital and Morristown Memorial Hospital are the only two New Jersey hospitals to receive the American College of Cardiology Foundation and American Heart Association’s ACTION Registry®-GWTG™ 2009 Gold Performance Achievement Award for improvement in the treatment of heart attack patients.

Gregory Sachs Chest Pain Center and cardiac catheterization laboratory provide state-of-the-art emergency services for heart attack patients. Overlook Hospital's staff of interventional cardiologists, emergency department physicians, specially trained nurses, paramedics and technicians provide the best care available when seconds really count. Thanks to the Atlantic Health Mobile Intensive Care Unit, treatment for heart attack patients can begin en route to the hospital. If needed, our physicians can access the expertise of nationally recognized cardiac care staff at nearby Morristown Memorial Hospital.
