Cardiac Catherterization
Cardiac catheterization involves passing a catheter (a thin flexible tube) through an artery or a vein to the heart, and into a coronary artery. This procedure produces angiograms (x-ray images) of the coronary arteries and the left ventricle, the heart’s main pumping chamber. It can also be used to measure pressures in the pulmonary artery and to monitor heart function, usually in critically ill patients. At Overlook Hospital our Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory is fully equipped with digital, high-resolution x-ray systems and offers a variety of tests for diagnosing heart disease. Our highly trained team of cardiologists, registered nurses and technologists are available after hours and on weekends for emergency cardiac catheterization laboratory procedures. |
