Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP)
Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP) is a noninvasive procedure that can reduce the symptoms of angina. At Atlantic Health, EECP is available only at Overlook Hospital. This seven week program can be prescribed by your physician as a means to enhance your quality of life if you suffer from persistent angina. The beneficial effects of EECP on perfusion of the heart muscle in patients with coronary artery disease appear to be sustained between treatments, and may persist long after completion of a course of therapy. Enhanced External Counterpulsation involves the use of a device to inflate and deflate a series of compressive cuffs wrapped around the patient's calves, lower thighs, and upper thighs. Inflation and deflation of the cuffs are modulated by events in the cardiac cycle via computer-interpreted ECG signals. The treatments are done by our team of highly caring nurses and technicians. |
