Patient Responsibilities

  • The patient is responsible for following patient rules and regulations.

  • The patient is responsible for providing, to the best of his/her ability, accurate and complete details about his/her past illnesses and present condition. He/she is responsible for telling his/her doctor and other hospital personnel whether he/she has been hospitalized in the past, what for, and what medicine or other medications he/she is taking or has with him/her.

  • The patient is responsible to communicate with his/her nurse and doctor to make pain relief a priority.

  • The patient is responsible for telling his/her doctor if there is a change in his/her condition or if problems arise in treatment.

  • The patient is responsible for telling the doctor or nurse if he/she does not understand his/her treatment or if he/she does not understand what he/she is expected to do.

  • The patient is responsible for following the advice and instructions of doctors, nurses and other hospital personnel concerning his/her care.

  • The patient is responsible for accepting the consequences of refusing treatment or not following instructions.

  • The patient is responsible for paying his/her bill promptly or telling the hospital if he/she cannot pay the bill. If he/she is not paying his/her own bill, the patient is responsible for telling the hospital who will be responsible for payment.

  • The patient is responsible for being courteous to the hospital staff and other patients, to help keep the noise and number of visitors to reasonable levels and adhere to hospital’s NO SMOKING policy. The patient may not damage or remove hospital property or the property of other patients.

  • The patient is responsible for discussing and planning for post discharge needs early in hospital stay. The patient has a responsibility to participate in the development of an appropriate discharge plan.
