Pediatric Unit at Goryeb Children's Center at Overlook Hospital

 Pediatrics

Welcome to the Pediatric Unit at Overlook Hospital. We understand that the hospitalization of a child is one of the most difficult things a family ever experiences. Our highly trained specialists provide superior care in a warm, compassionate and friendly atmosphere. During your child’s stay on the Pediatric Unit, there will be several staff members attending to your needs.

Your satisfaction is very important to us and we value your input. After you leave the hospital you may receive a Patient Satisfaction survey from Press Ganey Association Inc. Please take the time to complete and return the survey in the self-addressed envelope. Your answers will provide us with valuable information to measure and improve the care we provide to every child who stays with us.

Our Staff

Our team of professionals supports the philosophy of “Family Centered Care”.

  • A pediatric nurse cares for your child at all times during his or her stay.
  • The nurse manager and clinical coordinator direct the nursing care on the unit.
  • The unit secretary/technician assists the nurse in the care of your child.
  • The case manager works with parents and the medical team to develop discharge plans and assist families with insurance issues.
  • The social worker helps children and their families with non-medical problems related to illness, injury and hospitalization including social and financial needs and any necessary post-hospital care.
  • Your pediatric attending physician admits your child to our facility and manages his or her care throughout your stay by assessing your child’s progress on a regular basis and consulting with you and hospital staff.
  • A pediatric sub-specialist may assist your attending physician to diagnose and treat a specific illness or injury.
  • A resident physician, or physician in training, is assigned to your child’s care for the duration of the hospital stay and provides health care under the direction of your attending physician. He or she is available 24 hours a day.
  • Child life specialists help reduce the stress and anxiety that many children/adolescents and their families experience in the health care setting.
