Electives & Fellowships

Electives

Elective rotations are available in all of the subspecialty areas. However, we do not limit your ability for electives to this institution. There are two call-free months, one in each of the PGY-2 and PGY-3 years.

Our residents have taken electives around the world, from Bombay to Brooklyn. This past year, one of our PGY-2 residents had a very unique educational experience doing rural medicine elective in Vietnam. The hospital maintains grant funding for residents interested in doing an international elective to help defray the costs. The ability to leave the institution for electives plays a key role for our residents in getting top fellowships. Many residents do a rotation where they want to do their fellowship training.

Fellowships

There are no pediatric fellows at the Goryeb Children’s Hospital. This is a conscious decision by the department and it is to the benefit of resident education. Our philosophy is that a fellow is an additional layer between the resident and the attending. The residents have direct contact with the patient’s attending without the middleman. With the focus on one-on-one teaching, we want to enhance this relationship.

Our graduates secure top fellowship positions year after year. Here is a list of places that our recent graduates have gone:
