Pediatric and Adolescent Endocrine Center
The Goryeb Pediatric and Adolescent Endocrine Center cares for children with hormonal disorders, from newborns to teens. Below are some of the conditions that experts at the Pediatric and Endocrine Center can treat: Congenital Hypothyroidism and Congenital Adrenal HyperplasiaRoutine newborn heel stick blood screening is mandated by the state of New Jersey for a number of disorders that appear in infancy. The testing includes screening for congenital hypothyroidism, which occurs in one of every 4,000 infants, and congenital adrenal hyperplasia, which occurs in one of every 10,000 newborns. Early treatment of these hormonal disorders with medication is necessary and effective and will insure normal growth and development in these infants. The Pediatric and Adolescent Endocrine Center at Goryeb Children’s Hospital is designated by the state of New Jersey as a facility to manage newborn infants with abnormal thyroid and congenital adrenal hyperplasia screening results. Growth Evaluation
The diagnosis and treatment of growth and pubertal development disorders requires a comprehensive consultation with a pediatric endocrinologist, as well as appropriate radiation and laboratory evaluation. If a child is deficient in growth hormone, therapy can be initiated with excellent prognosis for improved adult height. Other causes of poor growth are also diagnosed and treated. Childhood Cancer Treatment Follow-upWorking closely with the physicians in the Valerie Center, the Pediatric Endocrine Center evaluates and treats children who have received cancer therapy that may affect endocrine function, growth or development. Turner SyndromeThe Pediatric and Adolescent Endocrine Center provides support to girls with Turner Syndrome. Many girls with this disorder require growth hormone and pubertal hormone replacement therapy. Other Pediatric Endocrine ServicesInclude the evaluation and therapy of children and adolescents with:
