Education

 Education

The cornerstone of the program at the Respiratory Center for Children is the education it provides to both physicians and other health care professionals, as well as to parents and families. In addition to expert treatment, there is ongoing evaluation, care and necessary follow-up. Giving the patient the ability to control their health is a major goal.

To fulfill its strong commitment to education, the Respiratory Center provides educational programming and counseling to equip parents, siblings and patients to better handle the physical, emotional and financial stresses of chronic illness. Family members are empowered with knowledge and understanding to appropriately treat the changing aspects of their child’s illness.

Through educational sessions, parents will focus on management issues such as understanding the disease and its effects, administering medications and following an overall care plan. Counseling sessions, whether through support groups for families or ongoing contact with the pediatric nurses and/or social worker, help the family cope with the day-to-day struggles of chronic illness. The Respiratory Center helps the referring physician, parent and the child make important respiratory care choices.
