Conferences

RotatorThe Internal Medicine Residency Program at Morristown Memorial Hospital’s conferences include:

Morning Report
8:00 to 9:00am (daily)

Each morning, residents and various faculty subspecialists discuss admissions from the previous night with emphasis on evidence-based medicine. One morning per week is dedicated to ambulatory morning report, a case-based conference focused on the outpatient setting. Friday morning reports are restricted to interns to help them develop their diagnostic, management and presentation skills without interference from more senior colleagues.

Attending Rounds
10:30am to Noon (three days per week)

Each floor team meets three times per week with a general internist or subspecialist to discuss newly admitted cases. Floor rotations are "geographically-focused," with cardiology, hematology and oncology, neurology, and respiratory specialties, mixed with general medicine patients. Subspecialists relevant to each floor's setting assist in attending rounds throughout each week. Bedside teaching is emphasized.

Noon Conference
Noon to 1:00pm (daily)

The noon conference series is an 18-month cycle core curriculum based on the material needed to pass the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) certification examination. In addition to the core areas recommended by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and ABIM, other covered topics include research and life after residency.

Sign-Out Rounds
4:00 to 5:00pm (daily)

A senior resident meets daily with floor and service interns to manage the sign-out process, improving both patient safety and interns' comfort level.

Medical Grand Rounds
8:00 to 9:00am (Wednesdays)

This high caliber weekly lecture series is attended by residents and attending staff. Lecturers are experts in their fields and may have regional or national prominence. Topics run the gamut of internal medicine and are selected based on audience preference. Once a month, Medical Grand Rounds is dedicated to a "death audit."
