Can I volunteer for the summer only?
Yes, summer volunteers must commit to 15 hours per week for 10 weeks. Summer applications are due by May 1. Only courier positions are available for summer-only volunteers.
Do you always need volunteers?
We almost always need qualified and committed adult volunteers. At certain times of the year, our junior program does reach capacity and we cannot accept applications.
Will I be able to shadow a doctor or have a clinical experience when I volunteer at the hospital?
The Volunteer Services Department does not offer shadowing or clinical experiences. However, the hospital offers some of these programs throughout the year: college students interested in this type of program should call 973-971-5247, option number 5 and high school students should call 973-660-3528.
Do you have research positions available?
No. Research positions are not offered through our department.
If I become a volunteer, will I get a job at the hospital?
Volunteering at Morristown Memorial Hospital does not guarantee employment.
How long do you keep an application?
Applications are held for three months only. If you do not complete the process within three months, your application will be discarded.
What is the time commitment required for being a Morristown Memorial Hospital volunteer?
The minimum time commitment is four hours per week for six months or 150 hours of service. You must be able to commit to coming in on a weekly basis.
What are the hours?
We have volunteers at Morristown Memorial Hospital seven days a week from early in the morning until 8:00pm (adult volunteers only).
How old must I be?
The minimum age to volunteer is 14 years of age.
How do I apply?
Application forms are accepted only through online submission:
You will be called for an interview if there is a match between your application and the current volunteer needs. You may also need a subsequent interview with a direct supervisor in a department. After the interview and if there is a suitable position, you will be required to obtain a certificate of good health from your physician, undergo two tuberculosis tests (see details), and submit to a criminal background check. An online orientation must be completed at the hospital prior to starting your volunteer assignment. Following your orientation, you will be ready to begin.
How long does it take to be processed?
On average, the whole process from start to finish takes about four to eight weeks. Adult volunteers may not start without receiving clearance from the state regarding their criminal background form, which may take up to eight weeks.
Is there a dress code?
Yes, adult men and women wear navy uniforms provided by the hospital, as well as a photo ID badge. Junior volunteers are issued teal polo shirts to keep and launder, and must wear khaki pants; jeans are not permitted. All volunteers may not wear shorts, short skirts, open toed shoes or perfume. In addition, music devices such as iPods may not be used while volunteering.
