Alzheimer's Disease

Atlantic Neuroscience Institute offers advanced diagnostic and medical treatment services for Alzheimer's disease – a progressive neurodegenerative condition that occurs in the brain and often results in:

  • Confusion and impairment in judgment
  • Emotional apathy
  • Impaired communication, either in speech or with understanding directions
  • Impaired memory, thinking and behavior
  • Impaired visuo-spatial skills
  • Personality and behavior changes, restlessness

More people are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease every year, possibly because more people are living well past the age of 65. Age, family history, genetics and environmental factors are all considered potential causes. The disease occurs in the brain and is progressive.

To help detect Alzheimer’s disease, we offer many diagnostic services, including the computed tomography (CT) position emission tomography (PET) with Cortex-ID™. The Cortex ID computer program enables our clinicians to compare a patient’s brain PET/CT scan to a database of age-matched normal subjects to check for abnormalities.
