Transitional Year

This one-year program is designed for medical school graduates wishing to pursue careers in specialties such as anesthesiology and radiology. Based at both Morristown Memorial and Overlook hospitals.

  • Six positions available for the 2009-2010 academic year.
  • Convenient to several excellent subspecialty training programs in New Jersey and New York.

Offerings

  • Valuable clinical experience across several core disciplines including internal medicine and pediatrics which will provide a strong foundation for subsequent training in anesthesiology, radiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, ophthalmology and other specialties
  • Exposure to outstanding physicians in hospital and office-based settings from a wide variety of specialties
  • Emphasis on development of all core competencies with an emphasis on humanities and physician-patient communications
  • Access to on-line and computer-based educational resources as well as BioSkills laboratory for learning medical procedures
  • Receive personalized attention from faculty in designing a program that meets your needs

Curriculum

  • 4 blocks of Internal Medicine Wards (2 months at Overlook, 2 months at Morristown)
  • 1 block of Critical Care Unit
  • 1 block of Ambulatory Internal Medicine
  • 2 weeks of Dayfloat with access to the Bioskills Lab
  • 2 weeks of Nightfloat
  • 1 block of Emergency Medicine
  • 3 blocks of elective
  • 1 block of selective (one of the following: General Surgery, Pediatrics or Ambulatory Internal Medicine)

How to Apply

We will only accept applications to our program via ERAS. We require:

  • At least three letters of recommendation, at least one from a categorical specialty other than the one to which you are applying
  • Dean's letter
  • Medical school transcript
  • Personal statement

Candidates should meet the following criteria to be eligible for an interview:

  • Graduation from medical school within the last 2 years 
  • Be eligible to work in the US (our program does not provide Visa sponsorship)
  • Minimum score of 80 on USMLE Step 1
  • US clinical experience is strongly recommended
