Palliative Care

Palliative Care focuses on enhancing the quality of life for patients who suffer from serious illness.  It is appropriate both for those patients receiving curative treatments and for those near the end of life. In addition to providing support in the management of pain and symptoms, we offer spiritual and psychosocial support for the patient and family.  We give special attention to your comfort and dignity and we honor your values and preferences.

The Palliative Care Team at Overlook Hospital provides a multi-disciplinary approach and offers a wide range of services that include:

• State-of-the-art pain and symptom management
• Social, psychological and spiritual support
• Family meetings to assist decision-making and identifying goals of care
• Palliative care/bioethics consultations for patients, families and physicians
• Case management and discharge planning
• Bereavement support, including the services offered by Atlantic Home Care and Hospice
