The Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Program

The Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Program at the Carol G. Cancer Center at Morristown Memorial Hospital is patient-focused. Regular planning sessions bring together our team of physicians to discuss a patient’s case and create a unique treatment plan. 

Services we provide include:

• Laser therapy
• Endobronchial-implanted brachytherapy
• Minimally invasive surgery for high–risk patients

• Video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS)
  
• Radiation and chemotherapy
  
• National research studies and pharmaceutical company-sponsored treatments with promising new drug regimens

The goals of our Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Program are:

• To provide coordinated care of patients with thoracic cancers (including small and non–small cell lung cancer, mesothelioma, thymoma, bronchial carcinoid and other thoracic cancers) and facilitate the rapid diagnosis and treatment of these patients.
  
  
• To provide continuity through a comprehensive approach to the ongoing care of these patients, integrating the specialties of surgery, pulmonary rehabilitation, pathology, radiology, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and palliative medicine.
  
  
• To help advance the care of patients with thoracic cancers through basic and translational research.
  
  
• To serve as a resource for community physicians in need of second opinions or specialized care including endobronchial-implanted radiation, laser surgery, minimally invasive surgery for high-risk patients and chemotherapy.
  
  
• To provide ongoing education and community outreach programs, which include CT screening and smoking cessation programs.

Members of the Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Program participate in Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), South Western Oncology Group (SWOG), American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACSOG) and CINJ Oncology Group Cooperative group trials.
