Morristown Medical Center Proudly Participates in 24th Annual Community Health Day

August 23, 2019

Preventative screenings, testing, referrals provided by team members

Morristown, NJ – Morristown Medical Center will again proudly participate in Morristown’s 24th Annual Community Health Day, to be held on Saturday, September 7 from 9am to 1pm at Headquarters Plaza.

The event, co-sponsored by Morristown Medical Center’s Community Health Department and supported by the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center, provides an opportunity for the community to come together for a day of health and wellness – free of charge. Since 2006, donors have contributed $2.3 million through the Foundation to the Morristown community and more than $270,000 has been put towards Community Health Days. The day features free screenings including glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, hearing, respiratory, vision, bone density, oral cancer, HIV, foot screening, and a Dermaview facial scanner to view sun damage.

In addition to the screenings, there are a number of workshops, dance demonstrations, senior, LGBTQ, child resources, healthy snacks, and music.

“Atlantic Health System and Morristown Medical Center are dedicated to building healthier communities, and our participation in Morristown’s annual Community Health Day is a way to reach out and connect our experts, resources and programs to our neighbors,” said Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, President of Morristown Medical Center. “As a nonprofit hospital, we will continue to reach out to our community to understand their health needs, partner in care, and improve access to our high-quality programs.”

An annual walkathon in support of the day will leave from Goryeb Children’s Hospital at 8am, with walkers arriving at Headquarters Plaza by 9am.

The Community Health Department at Morristown Medical is dedicated to meeting community members where they are and providing on-the-ground resources to the community. In 2018, members of the department attended 234 events with a total of 6,431 attendees and conducted 4,385 screenings. Seventeen percent of people screened at the events last year yielded abnormal findings, resulting in referrals to local physicians.

In addition to Morristown Medical Center’s medical and clinical team members, additional departments participating in the day include the Morristown Regional Cancer Center’s New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection (NJCEED) program, the Healthy Aging Program, Library Services, the Autism Center, the Respiratory Center, Laboratory, Internal Medical Faculty Associates Pharmacy, and Behavioral Health.
