


Joseph Ramieri, MD, is chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health, and attending physician at Morristown and Overlook medical centers - Atlantic Health System. In addition, he is clinical associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) - New Jersey Medical School in Newark.
After earning his Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, Dr. Ramieri completed his Doctor of Medicine at New York Medical College in New York City, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. His internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology were completed at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, where he was designated chief resident.
As department chair, Dr. Ramieri oversees Atlantic Health System's obstetric/gynecologic attending physicians, as well as the divisions of maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology and urogynecology, and pelvic and reconstructive surgery. He is responsible for the high- and low-risk obstetric clinics, gynecology clinic, colposcopy clinics, and all functions related to obstetrics and gynecology at Morristown and Overlook medical centers. A dedicated teacher, Dr. Ramieri directs the UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School's Integrated Obstetrical/Gynecological Residency Program, and delivers didactic journal presentations and surgical training to medical students and residents at both Atlantic Health System hospitals.

For the 2008-09 academic year, Dr. Ramieri will chair the new Atlantic Health System Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health Residency Program. He is devoted to sharing medical knowledge and the ethics of compassionate care to develop high-quality physicians. Dr. Ramieri's educational contributions include local and regional presentations, and grand rounds on a variety of topics in his field, including obstetric and gynecologic surgery, hormone replacement therapy and shoulder dystocia. He has been principal investigator for a research study on postsurgical pain. Dr. Ramieri is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Medical Association, New Jersey Medical Society and Morris County Medical Society.
