

Mark D. Widmann, MD, is chief of thoracic surgery and an attending physician at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ. In addition, he is an attending physician at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ and is surgical director of the lung cancer program at Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at Morristown and Overlook medical centers. Dr. Widmann is also assistant clinical professor of surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York.
Dr. Widmann earned his BA magna cum laude at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and his MD at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. After graduating, he completed his internship in internal medicine and internship and residency in general surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital. In addition, he was awarded a National Institutes of Health grant that funded his two-year research fellowship in vascular surgery at Yale University School of Medicine. His clinical residency and research fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery was completed at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Dr. Widmann is the author or coauthor of several articles and abstracts concerning a variety of topics in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, which have been published in scientific journals such as Chest and Annals of Thoracic Surgery. A sought-after speaker, he has delivered local, regional and national invited presentations, conferences and grand rounds in his field. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and American College of Chest Physicians, and a clinical associate of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Dr. Widmann's professional memberships include the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery Interest Group, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the New Jersey Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
