Hackettstown Regional Medical Center Officially Becomes Part of Atlantic Health System

Hospital Name Changed To Hackettstown Medical Center

April 1, 2016, Morristown, NJ – Hackettstown Regional Medical Center officially became part of Atlantic Health System today, completing the 111-bed acute care hospital’s transfer of ownership from Adventist HealthCare.

The transfer of ownership allows Atlantic Health System to enhance connections between Hackettstown Medical Center and the organization’s other facilities and offer the community seamless access to the high-quality services.
The closing on the transfer between Atlantic Health System and Adventist HealthCare followed the required regulatory approvals including that of the Superior Court of New Jersey, as recommended by the New Jersey Attorney General in March.

As part of joining Atlantic Health System, the hospital will now be known as Hackettstown Medical Center, in line with the organization’s other facilities. The hospital will remain a licensed, acute care general hospital.

“It is with great honor that we welcome Hackettstown Medical Center into our organization,” said Atlantic Health System president and CEO Brian Gragnolati.  “This collaboration strengthens our ability to deliver a Trusted Network of Caring™, providing the full breadth of our services to promote the health and well-being of Hackettstown and its surrounding communities.”

Recognizing the demands of a changing health care landscape across the nation, leadership at Adventist HealthCare sought to position the hospital to succeed in an environment of health care reform. This called for affiliating with a health system in its own region with a strong New Jersey presence and an expanded regional network of services, physicians, and other care providers. Joining Atlantic Health System will provide the community with seamless access to health care services and will enhance the quality, effectiveness and continuity of care for patients.

“In Atlantic Health System, we have found a local organization that shares many of the values we hold important,” said Jason Coe, President, Hackettstown Medical Center. “Becoming part of Atlantic Health System’s Trusted Network of Caring ensures that Hackettstown Medical Center will continue to be an intrinsic provider of health care for patients in this region.”

Other benefits of the transfer include:

  • Expanded outpatient and preventive medicine services available within the region

  • Broader patient access to pediatric and other specialty care; clinical trials; and advanced protocols for emergent care, including complex stroke care, the latest cardiac diagnostic and treatment interventions, and advanced neonatal care

  • Strengthening of the primary care network, making it easier for the hospitals to cope with increased demand for services that health care reform is expected to generate

  • Expanded evidence-based quality measurement and improvement

  • Improved quality and increased cost savings through shared services and more efficient use of resources

  • Expanded access to a regional health information network

Adventist HealthCare is a non-profit health organization based in Gaithersburg, Md., with four hospitals and numerous other health facilities and services in the Washington, D.C. region. Hackettstown Regional Medical Center was the only Adventist HealthCare facility outside of the D.C. region.

The completion of the acquisition of Hackettstown today takes place on the five-year anniversary of Newton Medical Center joining the organization, an addition that marked the beginning of Atlantic Health System’s growth in the region.
