U. S. News & World Report Recognitions by Specialty
As a “Best Regional Hospital” Overlook Medical Center is also recognized as “High Performing” in the following specialties:
The new recognition for gynecology this year reflects the enhancement in gynecologic services at Overlook Medical Center, with the addition of nationally-recognized physicians in the area of urogynecology, as well as the use of state-of-the-art, minimally-invasive and robotic surgical treatments for urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. These services also include robotic surgery for gynecological oncology and cutting edge clinical trials for the treatment of gynecological malignancies.
The Women’s Cancer Center at Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center was selected to participate in a national ovarian cancer screening trial, which evaluates periodic blood tests that may be helpful in the early detection of ovarian cancer. Physicians at the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center treated the highest volume of ovarian cancer cases in the tri-state area from January 2010 to December 2012.
More than 100 specially-trained, board-certified OB/GYN physicians for Overlook and Morristown medical centers have contributed vastly to the success of the women’s health programs. Overlook and Morristown medical centers also offer an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved full freestanding residency program in obstetrics and gynecology, in which attending physicians have adopted the culture of teaching, promoting the acquisition and transfer of knowledge. Overlook and Morristown medical centers’ reproductive endocrinology and infertility programs have national and international reputations for their excellence.
Throughout the last several years there have been significant enhancements to the digestive disease programs at Overlook including the provision of innovative interventional endoscopy procedures, robotic surgery for rectal cancer, robotic surgery for pancreatic and liver cancer, state-of-the-art endoscopic ultrasound, and specialized genetic testing.
Overlook and Morristown medical centers are home to the Pulmonary Center of Excellence, and a nationally-recognized clinical research program that has performed more than 150 clinical trials over the last 10 years in COPD, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis and diagnosis of lung cancer.
The hospital rankings, said U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow, are like a GPS-type aid to help steer patients to hospitals with strong skills in the procedures and medical conditions that present the biggest challenges. “All of these hospitals are the kinds of medical centers that should be on your list when you need the best care,” Comarow said. “They are where other hospitals send the toughest cases.”
The rankings were published by U.S. News in collaboration with RTI International, a research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Highlights of the 2013-14 rankings will appear in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2014 guidebook, to go on sale in August.
The complete rankings and methodology are available online.
