Morristown Medical Center Ranked No.1 Hospital in New Jersey – Again
MORRISTOWN, NJ, MARCH 2012 – Morristown Medical Center was ranked the top hospital in the state for the second consecutive year and voted the No.1 hospital for coronary surgery, treatment of heart failure, hip and knee repair, and pediatric cancers by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., one of the nation’s most respected health care research and information companies. These rankings were published in Inside Jersey magazine’s April 2012 issue. Atlantic Health System’s hospitals, which include Morristown, Overlook, and Newton Medical Centers, and Goryeb Children’s Hospital, placed in the top three in nearly every category ranked by Castle Connolly.
Morristown Medical Center has proved itself as a top destination for cardiovascular care in New Jersey and one of the best in the New York metropolitan area. The Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Morristown performs more than 1,000 heart surgeries annually, more than any other cardiovascular facility in the state. Gagnon is also one of only 20 centers in the country providing a full range of heart valve treatment options through clinical trials, such as the CoreValve US Pivotal Trial, a minimally invasive, non-surgical, catheter-based treatment option for patients with symptomatic, severe aortic stenosis. The hospital also has been selected as one of 60 hospitals in the country to participate in a new trial that could potentially permanently lower blood pressure for patients with chronic hypertension.
“Castle Connolly’s recognition of Morristown Medical Center as the top hospital in New Jersey, and our broad range of marquee services – from cardiac care to pediatrics to orthopedics – is a testament to our dedication to providing superior patient care,” said David Shulkin, MD, president, Morristown Medical Center, vice president, Atlantic Health System. “We take pride not only in providing our patients with the highest quality medical care, but also in offering the latest diagnostic and treatment tools within a warm, nurturing environment for them and their families.”
Atlantic Health System’s hospitals received several accolades from survey results, which appear in the April 2012 issue of Inside Jersey. Morristown Medical Center and sister hospital Overlook Medical Center, which are categorized among hospitals with more than 350 beds, ranked:
Newton Medical Centers ranked in the 350 beds or fewer category:
Nearly 1,200 licensed physicians in New Jersey participated in the online survey by Castle Connolly, which was distributed in fall 2011. Physicians cast more than 20,000 votes on the treatment of specific medical conditions and top overall hospitals in the state. The results were divided into two categories: hospitals with more than 350 beds and those with less than 350 beds.
