Award demonstrates Overlook’s commitment to quality care for stroke patients

SUMMIT, NJ, MARCH 30, 2010 – Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ today received the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association’s (AHA/ASA) highest recognition for performance achievement – the Gold Plus Award. The AHA/ASA recognizes hospitals nationally for their success in using the Association’s “Get With the Guidelines” criteria for improving quality of care for heart disease and stroke patients. The award recognizes stroke centers for their commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines. Overlook Hospital is in the only stroke center serving Union, Somerset, Hunterdon and Essex counties to receive this recognition. Overlook Hospital serves the region by treating the most complex stroke cases and accepting critical patient transfers from 48 hospitals in New Jersey, including Morristown Memorial Hospital, Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Saint Clare’s Health System, Hackensack University Medical Center, UMDNJ – The University Hospital, Somerset Medical Center, Hunterdon Medical Center and Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
