Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at Overlook Presents an Evening With Emmy-Winning Journalist, Cokie Roberts

SUMMIT, NJ MARCH 2011 – Emmy-winning journalist, best-selling author and breast cancer survivor Cokie Roberts will speak about women’s choices, the impact on their roles and relationships, and the empowerment within those choices, at a special event offered by the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at Overlook Hospital.

“An Evening with Cokie Roberts,” a free, public event, will be held on April 27, 2011, 7:00pm to 8:30pm at Overlook Hospital’s Wallace Auditorium, 99 Beauvoir Avenue, Summit, NJ. Drawing upon the many roles of her own life – daughter, sister, wife, mother, journalist, author, breast cancer survivor, to name a few – Ms. Roberts will discuss the empowerment women can achieve through their many roles and how the many choices they must make to achieve success in these roles impact their relationships.

Cokie Roberts has covered Congress, politics and public policy for more than 20 years at ABC News. From 1996-2002 she and Sam Donaldson co-anchored the weekly ABC interview program This Week. She also serves as Senior News Analyst for National Public Radio, where she was the congressional correspondent for more than ten years. In her more than 40 years in broadcasting, Ms. Roberts has won countless awards, including three Emmys. She has been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame, and was cited by the American Women in Radio and Television as one of the 50 greatest women in the history of broadcasting. In addition to her appearances on the airwaves, Ms. Roberts and her husband, Steven V. Roberts, write a weekly column syndicated in newspapers around the country by United Media. The Roberts are also contributing editors to USA Weekend magazine.

Ms. Roberts is also a highly acclaimed, bestselling author. In “Ladies of Liberty,” a follow up to her bestselling book “Founding Mothers” (2004), she examines the lives and times of the incredible women who have helped shape America. Other bestsellers include, “From this Day Forward” (2001), a book she co-authored with her husband about their more than 40-year marriage as well as other marriages in American history; “We Are Our Mothers’ Daughters” (revised and expanded edition 2009), an account of women’s roles and relationships throughout American history, a New York Times number one bestseller; and her newest book, “Our Haggadah: Uniting Traditions for Interfaith Families,” released March 2011, another book co-authored with her husband, about their interfaith Passover traditions.

In 2002, Roberts was diagnosed with breast cancer for which she was successfully treated. Ms. Roberts, a mother of two and grandmother of six, resides with her husband in Bethesda, MD.

Copies of “Our Haggadah: Uniting Traditions for Interfaith Families,” will be available to attendees at no cost and can be signed by Cokie Roberts if requested. Registration is required. To register or for more information, call 1-800-247-9580 or click here >
