MORRISTOWN, NJ MAY 2011 –
David J. Shulkin, MD, president of Morristown Medical Center and vice president, Atlantic Health System, has been named to
prestigious list of the “50 Most Influential Physician Executives” for 2011. This is the third time Shulkin has been recognized on this list. He is the only hospital president to make the 2011 list from New Jersey and one of just two physician executives from this state.
Late in 2010,
and sister publication
issued a call for nominations, and received more than 11,700. The 100 names receiving the most nominations were then placed on a ballot and readers submitted their votes. Nearly 152,000 votes were cast this year, which counted for 50 percent of the outcome. The other 50 percent came from the opinions of the senior editors at
. The rankings appeared in the May 9 print edition.

Shulkin joined Atlantic Health System in January 2010 from Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan, where he served for four years as president and CEO. A board-certified internist, Shulkin has served in numerous physician leadership and academic roles, including: chief medical officer for Temple University Hospital and for the University of Pennsylvania Health System and Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, as well as vice dean and chairman of the Department of Medicine for Drexel University School of Medicine.
He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, professor of medicine at Albert Einstein School of Medicine and a Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute in Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, completed his internship at Yale University School of Medicine, and completed a fellowship in general medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
