Newton, NJ, May 2013 – The Newton Rotary Club has pledged $100,000 to support Newton Medical Center Foundation’s IMAGINE Capital Campaign, which will help further develop the hospital’s high-quality services.
The Rotary Club’s five-year pledge will help the IMAGINE Campaign which has a goal of $3 million. An anonymous donor has pledged an additional $1 million to the campaign if the Foundation achieves its goal. Rotary leaders announced the donation to fellow Newton Rotarians at the club’s weekly meeting on May 8.
“We’re honored by the generosity and commitment of the Newton community and this gracious gift by the Newton Rotary,” said Joseph DiPaolo, director of operations for Newton Medical Center, noting the new vision of Newton Medical’s parent organization, Atlantic Health System – empowering our communities to be the healthiest in the nation. “Our commitment to you is that we will be the best hospital possible.”
Referencing the campaign’s name, Rotary Club member George Morville, a trustee of the Newton Medical Center Foundation and chair of the IMAGINE campaign, asked fellow Rotarians to try to “imagine” whether the Newton club’s founders could have ever foreseen that their organization would include a great many leaders of the community whose generous support would be responsible for much of the hospital’s current development and success.
“You exemplify those folks who said, ‘Let’s start this Rotary Club,’” Morville said in thanks to his fellow Rotarians for their support of Newton Medical Center. “We’ve had our kids in that hospital. We’ve had our parents in that hospital. Every one of you has been a part of it and you should be very proud to be part of Newton Rotary.”
The donation is just the latest example of the Newton Rotary’s long history of support for Newton Medical Center. The club donated $150,000 in 2001 to renovate the hospital’s emergency department. Prior to that, the hospital renovated a nursing station thanks to a Rotary donation of $50,000.
The Newton Medical Center Foundation launched the IMAGINE Capital Campaign in February 2012 to support facility and technology upgrades to Newton Medical Center. These enhancements will enable the medical center to modernize the hospital and bring state-of-the-art equipment closer to home.
In addition to upgrading the hospital’s occupational and physical therapy capabilities, other capital campaign projects include: the hospital’s newly opened MRI suite, two new patient care units (with private rooms), two new CT scanners, an improved visitor entrance, a new lobby and a renovated pre-admission testing area.
Newton Medical Center was ranked by physicians as the top mid-sized hospital in the state for the second consecutive year among hospitals with 350 beds or fewer by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., one of the nation's most respected health care research and information companies. Newton Medical Center is also ranked first in this category for the treatment of congestive heart failure, strokes, hip and knee repair, high risk pregnancy, prostate and breast cancers, and neurological disorders. These rankings are published in Inside Jersey magazine’s April 2013 issue.
