The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society New Jersey Chapter Appoints Charles Farber, MD to Board of Directors

October 24, 2014, Morristown, NJ – The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s New Jersey chapter appointed Charles Farber, MD, PhD, to its Board of Directors to serve a four-year term.  Dr. Farber is chair, Hematologic Malignancy Panel, at Carol G. Simon Cancer Center, Morristown Medical Center and a member of Regional Cancer Care Associates.  

Dr. Farber began his involvement with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)  in 2009 when he was honored at the annual LLS golf outing. He was recommended by a board member who became one of his patients when diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and because of his outstanding work for blood cancer patients.

Since then he has been very involved in other LLS events including serving on the Executive Leadership Committee for the Light The Night Walks.

Stacey Boman Weathers, executive director of the New Jersey chapter, said that Dr. Farber has helped open many doors for LLS in the medical community and encouraged new partnerships with major hospitals in the area. 

“Dr. Farber has a very impressive list of credentials and is a leader in the fields of hematology and oncology. We are honored to welcome him to our Board of Directors as we know he will continue to support our work and inspire others to help us find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients,” Weathers said. Dr. Farber attended the University of Rochester where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with High Distinction and Magna Cum Laude. He attended New York University where he received dual MD and PhD doctorates studying white blood cell biology. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine followed by a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at New York Hospital/Cornell University Medical College.

After completing training, Dr. Farber joined the faculty of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center on the Lymphoma Service. He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Rutgers Medical School.  Dr. Farber has published 60 scientific papers in the areas of leukemia, lymphoma, white blood cell disorders and hematopoietic growth factors. He serves as a reviewer for several medical publications, is an investigator in numerous clinical trials for patients with hematologic malignancies and serves on several national scientific advisory boards studying blood disorders. Dr. Farber’s board certifications include: Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine; Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine: Medical Oncology; and Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine: Hematology. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology.
