Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center and Chilton Medical Center offer robotic surgery for the treatment of urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, including cystocele, rectocele, uterine prolapse and vaginal vault prolapse.
Sacrocolpopexy – Treatment for Prolapse
Using the da Vinci® Surgical System, our surgeons perform sacrocolpopexy – a gold standard for surgically correcting uterine and vaginal vault prolapse – where mesh is used to hold the vagina in the correct anatomical position and provide long-term support. We are recognized as the most experienced program in the nation performing this procedure.
Urinary Incontinence Treatment
Morristown, Overlook and Chilton medical centers also use the da Vinci Surgical System to treat urinary incontinence through a procedure called burch urethropexy. This type of robotic surgery suspends the urethra to strong ligaments attached to the pubic bone.
Potential benefits of urogynecologic robotic surgery include:
- Less scarring, blood loss and pain
- Shorter hospital stay
- Quicker recovery time and return to daily activities
- Decreased risk of infection
Urogynecologic Robotic Surgery Training Center
Since 2006, Morristown Medical Center has served as a training center for hundreds of urogynecologists and urologists from around the country to learn robotic sacrocolpopexy. Our program’s director speaks nationally and internationally at scientific conferences about this procedure and teaches a course on the subject sponsored by the manufacturer.
