Memory and Cognitive Disorders

 Memory and Cognitive Disorders
Do you sometimes forget where you parked your car, where you put your glasses, or the name of an acquaintance? You're not alone. Memory changes are a normal part of aging. However, when memory loss occurs suddenly or significantly interferes with your ability to perform daily activities, it may indicate a more serious problem:
  • Alzheimer's disease and other age-related dementias
  • Mental health problems, such as depression, schizophrenia, or a severe emotional event
  • Medication side effects and adverse drug interactions
  • Head trauma
  • Alcohol
  • Stroke or cardiac problems
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Metabolic disorders, such as diabetes
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Brain tumors

The multi-disciplinary staff at the Atlantic Neuroscience Institute works with patients and their referring physicians to diagnose and treat memory and cognitive disorders early and effectively, enabling patients and their families to understand the symptoms of impaired memory loss and improve daily living.
