Cardiac CT Angiography
At Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Morristown and Overlook Medical Centers, we offer cardiac computed tomography (CT), which can aid in the diagnosis of:
- Arterial and venous aneurysms
- Atherosclerotic disease
- Traumatic injuries of arteries and veins
- Arterial dissection and intramural hematoma
- Arterial and venous thromboembolism
- Vascular congenital anomalies and variants
- Vascular interventions (percutaneous and surgical: angioplasty, coronary stenting, coronary bypass grafts, ablation therapy for cardiac dysrhythmia, valve surgery, aortic root replacement, pacemaker placement planning)
- Cardiac tumors and thrombi
- Pericardial disease
- Cardiac functional evaluation, especially in patients in whom cardiac function may not be assessed by magnetic resonance imaging (automatic implantable defibrillator, pacemaker, general MRI contraindications) or echocardiography (poor acoustic window)
64-Slice Cardiac CT Angiography
This noninvasive test, also known as volume computed tomography (VCT), is offered at Morristown Medical and can be performed in about an hour. 64-slice cardiac CT angiography produces a detailed image much like those produced by more invasive methods.
320-Slice Cardiac CT Angiography
320-slice CT angiography, offered at Overlook Medical, takes less than eight seconds and results in precise 3D images of the heart arteries, which are not blurred by the heart’s motion. This test, used to diagnose heart disease, requires less radiation and contrast dye than a traditional scan, and patients are able to resume normal activity once the scan has been completed. The 320-slice scanner is currently the most powerful x-ray imaging machine in its class, and is one of only a few on the East Coast.
