

During cardiac catheterization, surgeons pass a thin flexible tube through an artery or vein to the heart, and into a coronary artery to produce angiograms (x-ray images) of the coronary arteries and the left ventricle, the heart’s main pumping chamber. The procedure can also be used to measure pressure in the pulmonary artery and to monitor heart function in critically ill patients.
Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Overlook Medical Center features digital imaging procedure labs fully equipped with high-resolution x-ray systems to perform a variety of diagnostic tests 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including emergency angioplasty procedures at night and on the weekends.
