COVID-19 & Heart Health

Some patients who were hospitalized with COVID-19 have experienced heart damage. Reports have indicated that this type of cardiac injury, which can include myocarditis (heart muscle inflammation), may also occur with asymptomatic or mild-severity COVID-19 infection too.

Furthermore, researchers are looking into the best approach to managing cardiovascular risk following COVID-19 infection. At Atlantic Health System, Matthew Martinez, MD, FACC, Director, Sports Cardiology, is leading our participation in a program to document heart health among competitive athletes who have recovered from COVID -19.
