Applying for residency at the Pediatric Residency Program at Goryeb Children’s Hospital:
Who can apply?
Graduates of U.S. medical schools (both allopathic and osteopathic) may apply. In addition, graduates of international medical schools may apply, as long as they are ECFMG-eligible at the time of application.
How do I apply?
We accept only the Electronic Residency Application (ERAS).
What is the application deadline?
Candidates may apply until December 31.
Do you offer observerships?
Do you look for specific scores on licensing exams?
For both the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medicine Licensing Examination (COMLEX), we look for passing on the first attempt. The acceptable minimum scores are 220 for USMLE and 500 for COMLEX.
How long can I be out of medical school and still apply for your program?
We will consider candidates who graduated from medical school within the last five years.
Do you participate in the couples match?
How many letters of recommendation do I need?
Three, in addition to your Dean's letter.
Do you require a letter from the chairman of pediatrics at my school?
No. However, if you have worked closely with your chairman, either in a research or clinical setting, it would be appropriate to include a letter from him or her.
Do all of my letters of recommendation need to be from pediatricians?
No. Letters should come from faculty with whom you have worked closely and who will be best able to assess your clinical/research abilities. However, we do recommend that at least one of your letters be from a pediatrician.
Is there a maximum number of letters of recommendations you will accept?
ERAS allows as many letters of recommendation as you feel are as necessary. However, no more than four letters may be sent to any individual program.
How will I be notified if I am offered an interview?
Applicants will be notified by email when they have been offered an interview.
When should I call to schedule an interview?
You should respond by email to the interview offer that will come from the program. Email is the preferred method of arranging interviews, as it provides a record of the arrangements.
How are interview dates assigned?
Interviews are held two days per week in November, December and January. Scheduling is done on a first-come, first-served basis. Although we will do our best to accommodate your schedule, we cannot guarantee the availability of your requests as each day has a limited number of interviews available.
