The Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at Goryeb Children's Hospital is staffed by specialists trained in the unique physical, psychological and social needs of teenagers and young adults ages 12 to 21. Using a holistic approach, treatment is provided at Goryeb Children's Hospital at Morristown Medical Center, Goryeb Children's Center at Overlook Medical Center and off-site at community agencies. Programs within the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health, such as the Eating Disorders Program and TeenHealthFX.com, provide services for specific issues.
Adolescent medicine physicians work with a team of professionals to offer a full range of health services including:
Our specialists also provide gynecologic care such as diagnosis and treatment of menstrual disorders, Pap smear screening, family planning and emergency contraception.
Our adolescent medicine team works closely with other sub-specialists within Atlantic Health System to provide coordinated, multidisciplinary care for adolescents and young adults with acute and chronic diseases. Issues such as privacy and confidentiality, which is very important in treating teenagers, are given great consideration.
An important part of our program is the participation of a child and adolescent psychiatrist. We provide psychiatric evaluations for a variety of disorders such as depression, ADHD, bipolar and conduct disorders. In addition to the Crisis Intervention Service at Morristown Medical Center -- hotline 973-540-0100 -- our team works with a number of community agencies that provide crisis intervention services.
The Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health also participates in research studies to further advance knowledge and care of the adolescent population. Studies that we have participated in include testing new medications for attention deficit disorders and depression. The Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health was also a site for the international study of a vaccine for human papiloma virus.
