Goryeb Children’s Hospital’s Kid-FIT program for teenagers ages 12 through 21 provides education on appropriate choices regarding physical activity and food, while encouraging family support.
To join Kid-FIT, patients must obtain a referral from their pediatrician. Once accepted, they attend a scheduled orientation that covers our program’s philosophy and structure, including goal setting and parenting expectations.
Next, each child undergoes an assessment of their current lifestyle, sleep patterns, physical activity levels and eating habits. After evaluating the data, our expert team, which includes an exercise physiologist and a registered dietician, will prescribe a treatment plan tailored to individual needs. This may include exercise recommendations, nutrition planning, sleep assessments and counseling.
We meet with patients on a monthly basis to review their goals and prescribe additional treatments that will help maintain a healthier lifestyle. In addition, Kid-FIT is only of only a handful of programs in the country with state of the art technology that can assess body composition and body fat percentage. We use this device to track our patients’ progress and make adjustments as needed, helping ensure long-term success.
There is a minimal fee for each lifestyle assessment and financial assistance may be available.
