Parents can turn to Goryeb Children's Hospital for top notch epileptic care of their child. In fact, the National Association of Epilepsy Centers has designated us as a Level 4 epilepsy center, signifying that we provide the highest-level medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy
Diagnosis begins with a complete medical evaluation, including a recorded description of what occurred prior to the seizure and what the seizure looked like. Next, an electroencephalogram (EEG) is typically used to record brainwaves that may reveal a tendency for epilepsy. Our video EEG monitoring is available in a child-friendly inpatient setting to accommodate tests lasting 24 to 48 hours.
The majority of children with epilepsy can control seizures with one medication and have virtually no limitations on their daily activities. However, in some cases where medication is not effective on its own, a specialized nutrition plan known as the ketogenic diet is prescribed.
