Providing sick or injured children with a place to escape and play can be an important recuperative tool. That’s why Goryeb Children’s Hospital offers The Lion’s Den – a playroom that emphasizes healing through interactivity and connectivity.
Created and donated by proceeds from the Frozen Flashback Delbarton Hockey Team and the Companions in Courage Foundation, our Lion’s Den gives adolescents and pre-teen patients access to Xbox 360 video games, personal computers and a large monitor with videoconference capability, allowing them to connect remotely with family, friends and other Lion’s Dens around the country. What’s more, the playroom has an arts and crafts table that also serves as a space for medical demonstrations by our Child Life staff as they prepare patients for procedures.
For our younger patients, we offer a second play area called the Atrium Playroom. Built in an open solarium, it provides a bright space that encourages creative and traditional play. This room was made possible by generous donations from the Spinnaker Foundation Inc. and Kids4Kids, the youth philanthropy council of Goryeb Children’s Hospital.
Both playrooms are available at Goryeb Children’s Hospital at Morristown Medical Center.
