Emergency Medicine

Morristown Medical Center, part of Atlantic Health System, is nationally known for exceptional medical education programming. A non-profit 693 licensed-bed hospital, Morristown Medical has evolved from a community hospital into a regional referral center with the largest cardiac program in the state, a busy neonatal center, a helicopter landing pad on the roof and a rapidly growing trauma program. Emergency medicine residents, fellows and medical students work with experienced health care professionals representing every major specialty and subspecialty. Atlantic Health System is the primary academic and clinical affiliate in New Jersey of Mount Sinai School of Medicine and The Mount Sinai Hospital.

Department of Emergency Medicine and Residents

Our department of emergency medicine is staffed by 30 full-time faculty members, all of whom are board-certified or board-eligible in emergency medicine. Our 60-bed, 28,560 square feet facility features patient care areas, trauma facilities, fast-track unit, offices and a conference area. We see approximately 85,000 patients a year, including 23,000 pediatric patients, and admit approximately 12,000 patients. Ancillary services permit the emergency medicine resident to spend his or her time providing direct patient care with minimal nursing or secretarial duties. The emergency medicine attending delegates patient care to residents in accordance with their level of training, though every patient is seen by the attending. Senior emergency medicine residents are responsible for managing major trauma three times a week.
