Grand Rounds occur on Thursday mornings and are host to a variety of speakers who are national, regional and local experts.
Residents present a grand-round PowerPoint presentation reviewing interesting cases. Twice a month, residents are involved in OB/GYN M&M case reviews and on the fourth Thursday of the month, a joint OB/GYN M&M review is held at Overlook Medical Center. These highly-educational conferences are attended by all of the residents, as well as the faculty and community OB/GYNs.
Resident Research Day
The Division of Academic Affairs sponsors a yearly resident research day. All residents present their research projects, and awards are given to outstanding projects.
A resident-driven journal club in which the residents meet with the program director to discuss important recent journal articles
Daily with the attending physician; ACOG Practice Bulletins are also reviewed weekly.
Quarterly with the faculty/fellows, this conference is given by the residents on an article selected by the attending staff. Residents and faculty scrutinize the article's arguments and evidence, and the resident defends them.
Quarterly with your research mentor.
Thursday mornings from 8:00am to Noon are reserved for didactic activities.
Resident Program Meeting
Residents periodically meet with the Program Director for an informal discussion regarding their experiences during the residency.
Bio Skills Lab
Once every other month, a state-of-the-art bio skills lab with our urogynecology fellows allows for simulations in surgical procedures, as well as team training for crisis situations.
The director of Labor and Delivery and chief resident on Obstetrics conduct simulations of high-risk situations including shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, neonatal resuscitation, and eclamptic seizures. These drills allow for team training in crisis situations.
Each week, the chief residents present interesting cases to the chairman.
Tumor Board (Gynecology/Oncology)
Once a month with Pathology/Gynecology/Oncology, this multidisciplinary conference is moderated by the gynecologic oncologists and includes representatives from the entire health care team. It focuses on a comprehensive management strategy for the gynecologic oncology patients.
Fetal Monitoring Rounds
Throughout the Obstetrics rotation, interesting tracings are discussed along with management strategies with the director of Labor and Delivery and Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians.
Once per month with Maternal-Fetal Medicine, interesting ultrasounds are presented.
Resident Annual Retreat
Each year, our residents participate in an off campus retreat with an emphasis on team building.
