Performing more than 200,000 screenings and diagnostic and interventional procedures a year, Morristown Medical Center's Radiology Department offers a variety of advanced, state-of-the-art imaging services to accommodate our patients' medical needs and provides high quality and safe patient care. Furthermore, all of our patient's radiology images are digitally transferred via our Picture Achieving and Communications System (PACS), which allows our staff to deliver accurate results to our patients and physicians in a timely manner.

Our health care team consists of board-certified, fellowship-trained radiologists, highly-skilled technologists and registered radiology nurses. They specialize in breast imaging, cross-sectional imaging, neuroradiology, nuclear medicine, muscular-skeletal, pediatric imaging and interventional radiology. In addition, we are an active member of the American College of Radiology's “Image Gently campaign” – a national initiative to increase awareness about lowering radiation doses given to children.

Our department is accredited by The Joint Commission and is also accredited by the American College of Radiology in computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound (US), nuclear medicine (NM) and breast imaging.

Services available at Morristown Medical's Radiology Department:

• Computed tomography (CT) – An x-ray procedure that obtains cross-sectional images of body parts that cannot be seen on a standard x-ray. This allows physicians to promptly diagnose and treat many diseases.
  
  
• Digital mammography – An x-ray test that produces an image of the inner breast tissue. This technique, called mammography, helps physicians identify cysts, calcifications and tumors, and is currently the most efficient screening method in the early detection of breast cancer. The Carol W. and Julius A. Rippel Breast Center is equipped with a state-of-the-art digital mammography unit and offers a variety of tests and procedures to help maintain breast health and awareness.
  
  
• Fluoroscopy – A procedure that uses x-rays to produce real-time video images of organs in motion. We offer many fluoroscopic tests including: voiding cysto urethrograms (VCUG), hysterosalpingiograms (HSG), upper gastrointestinals (GI) and esophagrams.
  
  
• Interventional radiology – Minimally invasive techniques used to treat diseases using fluoroscopy and other imaging modalities.
  
  
• Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) – This scan uses magnetism, radio waves and a computer to produce cross-sectional images of body structures. The resolution is so detailed that physicians can detect tiny changes within the specific area that was scanned.
  
  
• Nuclear medicine – Procedures used to diagnose, manage and treat diseases with small amounts of radioactive material or radiopharmaceuticals.
  
  
• Pediatric radiology – X-ray procedures adapted to meet the needs of our pediatric patients.
  
  
• Positron emission tomography (PET)/CT – A scanning device that combines the data from two scans into one comprehensive image, allowing physicians to quickly and more accurately identify cancer, heart disease and brain disorders.
  
  
• Sports medicine imaging – X-ray procedures used in the evaluation and management of sports-related injuries.
  
  
• Ultrasound – A diagnostic cross-sectional imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves and a computer to view internal organs as they function and assess blood flow.
