Robotic Surgery
Using the da Vinci® Surgical System, highly skilled surgeons at Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center perform a wide array of procedures that are less invasive than ever before, more than 2,300 to date, including cardiac surgery; general surgery; pediatric urologic surgery; transoral surgery; gynecologic surgery, including gynecologic oncology; urologic and urogynecologic surgery.
The da Vinci Surgical System technology effectively combines the precision of open surgery with the advantages of laparascopic surgery. Surgeons can operate via tiny incisions, using instruments that mimic the movement of the wrist. In addition, the system’s advanced, high-definition camera makes it easier for surgeons to clearly see vital anatomical structures, so delicate nerves, muscles and blood vessels can be carefully spared, when necessary.
Robotic surgery typically offers numerous benefits over open surgery, including:

- Decreased risk of infection
The success of the da Vinci Surgical System in prostate surgery has inspired the surgical team at Morristown Medical to expand its use. In fact, we perform some of the highest volumes of robotic surgery for the treatment of cancer and gynecologic and urogynecologic conditions in this region. We were also one of the first hospitals on the entire eastern seaboard to perform a robotic sacrocolpopexy to correct female pelvic prolapse, and our cardiac surgeons are on the front lines as use of the da Vinci Surgical System in cardiac surgery continues to evolve.
