Establishing the Standards for Robotic Surgery
Morristown Medical Center's and Overlook Medical Center's robotic surgery teams are among the very best in the northeast, performing procedures offered at few other hospitals, and training other surgeons in state-of-the-art robotic surgical techniques:
- Our physicians serve as proctors for other surgeons learning to perform urologic, gynecologic, and urogynecologic robotic surgeries. Physicians from the tri-state area train at our hospitals for perform these techniques.
- We are part of a small group of hospitals in the New York metropolitan area to use robotic surgery to treat kidney tumors and ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO), or kidney obstruction.
- Our hospitals have a dedicated teams of nurses specifically trained in robotic surgery, helping our surgeons provide better patient care.
- Most robotic surgery patients are cared for in a surgical unit dedicated specifically to minimally invasive surgery.
Robotic Surgery at Morristown Medical
Our surgeons have completed more than 2,000 robotic procedures and are experts in the use of these techniques. In fact, we were the first in New Jersey to perform a laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and now manage a large robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy program. We were also one of the first hospitals on the East Coast to perform robotic surgery for pelvic prolapse.
In addition, we offer robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical cystectomy for bladder cancer and augmentation cystoplasty for severe neurogenic bladder – procedures offered at only a few institutions worldwide. We also perform more robotic gynecologic surgeries, including those used in the treatment of cancerous conditions, than any other hospital in the state.
Robotic Surgery at Overlook Medical
We have performed more than 300 robotic surgeries at our hospital. What’s more, our nursing team has received a clinical excellence award from the Association of Peri-Operative Registered Nurses (AORN) for their research on how robotic surgery can improve patient satisfaction.
