Atlantic Health Weight & Wellness Center at Morristown Medical Center patient
At Atlantic Health Weight & Wellness Center, we develop a multidisciplinary plan to help you understand and control your weight through a variety of therapies. Your treatment plan will be personalized to meet your body’s unique requirements.
All of our weight loss team members are experts in the field of weight management and have experience working with the challenges that overweight and obese patients face. Our team consists of metabolic physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, registered dietitians, an exercise physiologist and a licensed psychologist.
Your extensive metabolic evaluation takes place over two visits. Your first visit begins with a metabolic intake assessment by a registered nurse. You will then meet with the metabolic physician for a thorough physical examination, an assessment of your medical history and evaluation of any medical issues that may be causing your weight problem. The physician will give you a prescription for extensive metabolic blood work and any necessary medical evaluations. A registered dietitian will then perform metabolic testing to determine your resting metabolic rate (how many calories you burn at rest). Body composition analysis will determine your body mass index (BMI) and percentage of body fat, as well as your lean muscle mass. The dietitian will counsel you on lifestyle adjustments and teach you how to follow a metabolic diet at home.
At your second visit, the metabolic physician will go over the results of your metabolic blood work and any medical testing that was required. Any vitamin or mineral deficiencies, inflammation or hormonal imbalances will be identified, as well as any areas of breakdown in the normal metabolic process that may be preventing you from successful weight loss. The metabolic medical evaluation may also uncover any clinical issues that could lead to the development of obesity, diabetes or lipid disturbances.
The physician will prescribe a personalized, multidisciplinary weight loss program with diet and lifestyle changes to support your unique weight loss issues. Your program may include medication management, prescription weight loss medications, and/or correction of vitamin and mineral deficiencies, as well as diet counseling, lifestyle adjustment, stress management and an individualized exercise program.
