Patient Room Services

Patient Room Services

Patient Room ServicesIf you wish to have telephone service when you arrive, ask your nurse or patient liaison. Please be aware of the following:

  • Your request authorizes the hospital to charge you for the service.
  • The charges for your telephone service will be billed to your home telephone bill.
  • Your hospital insurance does not cover telephone service.
  • Telephone service includes all incoming calls and outgoing local calls.

Mail

During your hospitalization, any mail or packages sent to you will be delivered to your room. After discharge, any mail or packages received will be forwarded to your home or returned to the sender. For best service, please ask family and friends to include your hospital room number on incoming mail.

Patients’ Library, Library Cart and Newspapers

Our patients’ library, located in the volunteer services suite on Franklin 1, features books and magazines that can be checked out by patients and visitors. In addition, a volunteer brings a circulating library cart to patient units once a week. Volunteers also deliver the Daily Record free of charge to patients daily. The Star-Ledger, New York Times and USA Today are available for purchase in the Motown Café on Jefferson B.

Hairdresser

Beautician services and haircutting for men and women are available Monday and Thursday by appointment on a fee-for-service basis. Speak with the unit representative or patient liaison on your unit to schedule an appointment.

TTY Machines

Hospital patients can request teletypewriters (TTY machines) from floor nurses for use in their rooms.

Interpreters

For our non-English-speaking or limited-English-speaking patients, Cyracom translator phones are available on all nursing units. Each translator phone has two handsets – one for the patient, and one for the hospital staff member. We dial the number for Cyracom and choose the language of the patient (over 150 languages are available), and the Cyracom interpreter translates between the staff member and the patient.

For deaf or hearing-impaired patients, sign language interpreters can be arranged through your patient representative. In addition, Morristown Medical Center offers Deaf-Talk, which enables patients to communicate with hospital staff via certified medical sign language interpreters on a video screen. This service is available 24 hours a day.
