Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a complex condition characterized by recurrent seizures or disruptions in the brain’s normal electrical activity. It affects approximately 3 million Americans, including more than 300,000 children younger than 15 and more than 500,000 people older than 65, making it the third most prevalent neurological disorder in the United States. Though most people with epilepsy can lead normal lives, specialized care is recommended to ensure optimal control of symptoms.
Atlantic Neuroscience Institute’s Epilepsy Center at Overlook Medical Center is designated a Level 4 epilepsy center from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). We provide comprehensive care, technologically-advanced diagnostics and a patient advocacy program. We're also the first center in New Jersey to evaluate epilepsy patients using magnetoencephalography (MEG), a noninvasive procedure that uses precise sensors to detect and record the magnetic fields associated with electrical activity in the brain.
Our dedicated medical team includes board-certified, epilepsy fellowship-trained neurologists, epilepsy nurses and nurse practitioners, neurodiagnostic technologists, neurophysiologists and neuropsychologists. They’ll work with you and your referring physician to diagnose your medical needs and formulate an individualized plan of treatment and follow-up care.
In addition, we offer pediatric epilepsy monitoring at Goryeb Children’s Hospital at Morristown Medical Center and Goryeb Children’s Center at Overlook Medical. Our doctors collaborate with pediatric neurosurgery and other pediatric subspecialists to tailor a treatment plan that’s right for your child.
