Diagnostic Tests and Screenings

When you make an appointment for an evaluation at Atlantic Neuroscience Institute’s Memory and Cognitive Disorders Program at Overlook Medical Center, we will mail you a questionnaire to complete and return prior to your first visit. Your initial appointment will take about two hours and include a neurological consultation and a neuropsychological evaluation. A physical exam and tests of memory, attention, and other cognitive functions are part of the evaluation. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electroencephalogram (EEG), and lab work also may be recommended.

Your next visit will be scheduled two to three weeks after your first appointment. Our medical team will review your test results with you and recommend a plan for treatment. We also provide a comprehensive report to your referring physician and coordinate your follow-up care.

Our comprehensive range of clinical services includes:

  • Neurology
  • Neuropsychology
  • Psychiatry
  • Diagnostic testing (laboratory, electroneurophysiology and others)
  • Brain imaging (MRI, positron emission tomography (PET), computed tomography (CT) and others)
  • Psychotherapy

Alzheimer’s Disease

The Memory and Cognitive Disorders Program offers advanced diagnostic and medical treatment services for Alzheimer's disease, a progressive neurodegenerative condition that occurs in the brain and often results in:

  • Confusion and impairment in judgment
  • Emotional apathy
  • Impaired communication, either in speech or with understanding directions
  • Impaired memory, thinking and behavior
  • Impaired visuo-spatial skills
  • Personality and behavior changes and restlessness
To help detect Alzheimer’s disease, we offer many diagnostic services, including the CT PET with Cortex-ID™. The Cortex ID computer program enables our clinicians to compare a patient’s brain PET/CT scan to a database of age-matched normal subjects to check for abnormalities.
